Newcastle Maitland Returned to Newcastle Paceway last night to take part in racing on Newcastle Harness 30th year Anniversary celebration.
This was our annual Vandabell Equine Jewellery Spring Cup, great to see all kids and ponies out in big numbers with nomination of 20 horses. Racing ran with 2 heats of 10 horses with fastest 12 heading into Vandabell Jewellery Spring Cup Final, and field of 8 making up Consolation.
In honour of harness horse and 30th Anniversary celebrations seen the Mini Trotters change their names to Newcastle Harness Horse of the Year winners for their heats.
Taking out the first heat was the big fella of the night having his first run back after a long break New York Fashion (Cruiser) driven by Harrison Wiggins, followed second by Commander Monty (Captain Oats) for Dakota Cormie, third went to Mach Beauty (Black Snow) driven by Olivia Moy.
Second Heat of the Vandabell Jewellery Spring Cup was taken out Young Rylan Mitchell who was having his first Mini Trot race and came away with a tremendous win aboard Willie Morris (Pure Steel) following second Takara Truffle (Egyptian Dreamer) driven by Cassidy Waddley, third place was taken out by Surfing Safari (Roxy Surf Girl) for Emillee Miles.
Vandabell Jewellery Consolation seen Oreo - Jorja Daskalovski, Arabella - Will Ilsley, Rushin Gold - Rowan Wiggins, Major Jiba - Amity Cassar & Chase Em Ace - Isabella Cassar from Team Cassar stables, and Warpaint - Harrison Wiggins, Ghostbuster - Cassidy Campbell and Doubleoseven - Grace Campbell from Campbell Mini Trot Racing make up the field of 8. With Grace Campbell having 2 horses in the race, Harrison Wiggins gained a pick up on the Campbell Mini Trot racing trained Warpaint which see Warpaint come away with win over second Oreo Jorja Daskalovski finishing 3rd Doubleoseven Grace Campbell.
Spring Cup Final made up of 12 strong contenders came down to a close finish giving Harrison Wiggins on Cruiser a smile after driving a Treble for the night. Lots of smiles all round with Rylan Mitchell finishing second on Pure Steel, Rylan was one proud boy carrying his trophy around showing the crowd. The strong veteran of the field Your Kiddin Me coming third driven by Zach Wiggins. Followed by a blanket of close finishers 4th Smokey Bear - Ashton Wiggins, 5th Egyptian Dreamer - Cassidy Waddley, 6th Captain Oats - Dakota Cormie, 7th Roxy Surf Girl - Emilee Miles, 8th Black Snow - Olivia Moy, 9th Cross Em Boss - Brody Cassar, 10th Mr Rocket Fuel – Rylee Kiddle, 11th Batman - Lucy Morrison, 12th Black Thunder - Jack Morrison.
Newcastle Maitland will return to Newcastle Paceway Friday 25th October for next race meeting.
